This blog is for a Digital English (Spring 2010) course at the University of Florida. It's an experimental course that will lead us to the invention of a philosophical concept for electracy.
A concept needs a space on what Deleuze and Guattari in What is Philosophy? call a plane of immanence (an “image of thought” (37)). This plane of immanence is the internet. My blog, this blog, is the place where my concept will speak the event (21) of everything it is—that is, everything that I place in this blog related to my public policy issue of how healthcare reform affects patients diagnosed with cancer.
Among my various postings, a connection should begin to take shape in the form of a certain idea of character (my own, as distanced from myself in this digital space/plane), this, in part one, will represent my proper name; in part two, it will be my conceptual persona. I will find a way to represent my public policy issue by means of the digital image in the same manner that modern artists “speak the event” of their milieu through their work . My development of this concept will proceed in two stages, and it will be realized through five entry points: Commodity form, Appropriation device, Theory, Target, and tale (CATTt).
STAGE ONE (poetics of concept): Select a public policy issue
Extract a poetics for concept
Poetics of advertising (Problem)
Document invention process
STAGE TWO (create concept): Name of concept is "Routine"
Routine creates stasis
Political philosophy of language
Learn the logic of the joke
Use joke-logic and apropriation art
